Although Polaris run a shuttle bus between Hacienda Riquleme and La Torre from where you can connect to El Valle and Mar Menor, we consider that car hire is essential during your stay.

The resort is about a 15 minute drive from Murcia San Javier airport, and there are a variety of hire car companies offering a range of cars from economy class to luxurious. We have included a link to an excellent car hire search engine “car trawler” and you can get competitive quotes for car hire from both San Javier and Alicante airport (or further afield if required).

Make sure you click on the rental conditions tab so that you can check what is precisely on offer. The most important thing to consider is the way that fuel is charged. Some offer a full tank and you must return the car with a full tank of fuel, and others make a fuel charge, supply the car full and you have to return it empty. This won’t suit those of you who plan to drive to the resort and not stray too far away during your stay. My experience is that if you do a lot of driving around the area, you will use something like €30 – €50 of diesel in a week in an economy class car.

Bear in mind also, that unless you are very fit and/or keen, you will probably want to drive from the apartment to the clubhouse and supermarket. I haven’t walked it, but I guess it would take you about 20-30 minutes.
